Amazon planning on using unmanned aerial drones to deliver your stuff

    I think this is cool. This is the future:)

    But being serious for a moment, I can see a string of problems that must first be overcome. Some technical, but many more to do with people's fears and perceptions.

    Basically Amazon say as soon as they can get the necessary approvals from the various aviation authorities, they want to introduce very rapid delivery, by fully automated flying drones.

    If I was on the tech team for this project, I would insist that users of this service had an app on their phone. The phone app would let you know when the package is about here, and it would then activate your phone's Bluetooth hardware, which has far less range than wifi, so the drone could use GPS to get within a few meters of your house, then lock onto your phone's Bluetooth signal to guide it the last little bit. If Amazon wanted to be extra clever, they'd insist that people also had either a clear number on their front door, or a barcode, so that the drone could use image recognition to find the door, then optical character recognition to check that its at the correct door.

    I'm not sure I'd want a big corporate with unmanned drones knowing my current exact location! It's getting a bit Terminator for me...
