This is my first post, so hello to all.
For a long time I have had my heart set on obtaining an Ambridge Rose plant, a David Austin Rose, but have had no success.
I contacted David Austin to ask where I could purchase the rose, they replied that it could only be purchased in the United States.
I find this odd as apparently the rose was named after Ambridge in the Archers. I don't know if it was ever for sale in the UK. If any member knows where I could purchase the rose in the UK I would be most grateful. Failing this, could anyone tell me if regulations would allow me to import the rose from the United States?
    Many thanks, Marlton

Hello and welcome to the forums.
I think that if it's a David Austin rose then they only sell it.
But @wiseowl might know, he knows a lot about roses.

Good afternoon @Marlton I wish I could help but unfortunately the Ambridge Rose/Austin Wonder which was first introduced almost 33 years ago in this country has either been discontinued or renamed as many 1000's of Roses have been, but I shall endeavour to do a further search for you this afternoon and make a few phone calls to see if I can track one down for you but I am not very confident:smile:

Failing this, could anyone tell me if regulations would allow me to import the rose from the United States?

I am not at all knowledgable in the regulations about importation of plants from the U S A to the UK but I am sure that one of our members would be able to advise you.

I very much appreciate your replies, thank you.
I read about the Ambridge rose, saw a picture of it and set my heart on getting hold of one. Its to go in the centre of a not very big front garden.
David Austin did recommend other roses, but I really want the Ambridge.

for some reason it doesn't sound particularly hardy?
Protection from winter freezes and protection if grown in pots.
              Also susceptible to mildew.
Sounds like it might not have been a good dooer in our climate.

Its a town garden that is fairly sheltered and it would be going into the soil. I may use a fleece covering if frost is due.
Eight years back when I was emptying one of my hanging baskets, I saved one of the fuchsias and planted it in the garden, it thrived and grew into a lovely bush over the years, then last year the frost killed it off. So I see where you are coming from about the frost - I would have to be careful!

Thanks for the info. I live in Oxford so the temperatures are not too extreme (most of the time!)
I will keep searching for the rose in the UK, I am not too sure about importing the rose, that's if regulations allow it.
