American sawfly

    Hi, I am getting a gooseberry bush, and I am looking for tips on protecting it from americal sawfly, please.

    Also, if it gets an infection, is that the end of it or can it be rescued?

    A nearby friend suggested that covering the ground with wood-ash works well. Any ither tips?
