Amish paste tomato update, as promished here is the update of state of play as of today.
No sign of the blight as yet, I check twice a day and in the picture below you will see some of the residual copper I sprayed a week ago.
They are getting rather large now but no sign of redness as yet.
    More updates as and when

Nothing special freddy, I think is was John or Steve asked for updates right to the final taste test. I really hope they get that far.:gnthb:
I think maybe a weekly review should do it.

    Update time.
The ARMISH PASTE are now ripening.
But theres an oddity as you will see from the pictures of fruit from different plants
First picture is the biggest I have so far as posted on 5th Aug, not a lot going on there..

This second picture shows the first ripe fruit on a different plant. It looks like a cross between a pumpkin and a tomato!

Yet another plant still (same seed stock) has what appears to be a plum variety !

This picture shows the difference between the two.

We had the one on the right with a salad and the taste was good, if a little dry. I`m sure they will improve once we get into the big guys.

Its weird that they vary so much in size and form. That enormous one in the first picture should feed half of York!

Two of the smaller Amish harvested today.
There are bigger ones on the vine just turning.
I must remember to take a picture or two when they cut and try to explain what they taste like, so far the small ones have be rather good. Not a lot of seeds, ripe to the juicy core.
I am impatient to try the big ones in a few days.

    Todays update
The above two tomatos have been despatched today.
The one on the left was not quite ready but it made a wonderful sandwich.
There was some hard greenish around the stalk as you see in the first picture
    [IMG]
The one on the right was better as you see from this picture
    [IMG]
Not quite one slice to each sandwich but I still have the big ones to ripen!
The taste?... I like, loads of juice, and tender and I do believe when the big ones start to ripen and offer themselves to the chopping board I am in for a real treat.
Outside facing south you can see a rather heavy duty stem to hold all that weight
    [IMG]

    A cluster of Armish?

I also have some growing in the parsnip patch but these are a little behind the ones against the south facing wall.

These two look promising and are awaiting just a little bit more Yorkshire sunshine
    [IMG]

To finish this little tour here is a little and large. (The little is a tumbler)
Thats it from the tomato patch today.
    More coming soon.
I know you will be on tenderhooks waiting for the outcome of the BIG TOMATOES

    Oh..you are quite correct freddy
It was chopped about a bit and what was left ended up in the pan for Spag Boll. It was one of the first mutant ones to come of the vine. Very nice.
