OH and I have not been back very long from a walk in the local woods - we were told that the cockoo was calling up there but we didn't hear it. Here are a few pictures and a few questions that I want answering.

Here are the woods, they are mostly pine trees with a few hard woods on the periphrery and lots of small ones where clear felling has taken place.

Here are a few of the things we saw on our walk. There were two butterflies but I'm not sure if they were of the same speicies. See what you think.

Any idea what species ? Heres the second one.

Now for a bit of botany. Can anyone shed a bit of light as to what these three specimens are ?

I hope you enjoyed our stroll, it was hot and sunny whilst we were out but now we are sitting through a bit of a thunderstorm. :-)

    What a beautiful location.
I think they are both Speckled Wood butterflies. I will have to leave the wild flowers for someone else.:)

Is that Moel Fammau in the distance?

I have very fond memories of the Clywdian Hills - we used to go to Colomendy camp at Loggerheads when I was at school and climb Moel Fammau. And when I was at uni in Liverpool, I would often get in the car and drive over to the carpark with that marvellous viewpoint over the Vale of Clwyd to clear my head.

Of course, if it isn't Moel Fammau, scrub all of that and I look a twit!

    :o
