Not sure if this has been covered before, but whats your thoughts on the idea of not altering the clocks at this time of the year and going to plus two hour GMT in the summer.

Its been getting put over as giving us all another hour of daylight, which as we all know is rubbish.:)
Its only another hour of daylight if you dont get up until about 9 am.:D

It will be safer for kids coming home from school, but it will be dark when they go.
Most come home around 3.30 these days anyway, ... dont they?:skp:

And in the north it may not be daylight until 10 am.:(

Personally I dont mind one way or the other, it will still be dark when I go to work and dark when I get home.

:dh: Pete, glad someone else has seen this... I saw it before I went away & thought what a load of old twaddle........ :dh: They have put up so many stupid reasons for it, but it is ridiculous & futile I think now in this day & age... So many people out of work... It will not make any difference to our farmers.. Yes the changes made for wartime did make a difference & we became very self sufficient then... The argument from Rospa that there would be less accidents as more daylight hrs is also ridiculous...

No Pete I am not for it.....

If we leave the clocks at GMT plus one it will be darker in the mornings but lighter in the evenings.

But the point is, whatever we do, we dont get an extra hour of daylight.

No it makes no difference to the amount of daylight.

We had an experiment in the 60s when we kept BST all year. I seem to recall it was a few Scottish farmers who didn't like it so we reverted back to changing the clocks. I'd prefer to keep BST all the time, but I can't see any point in going 2 hours over GMT.

I prefer it to be lighter in the mornings during winter. I don't fancy teeing off in the dark!

For myself I don't really care because I work on Shiney time anyway. :hehe:

From the kids point of view - I thought that nowadays mums tend to drive them to school. So there should be less of a problem than there used to be. Why change it? :cnfs:

I wish they'd stop this altogether. I'm sure it si not necessary these days anyway.

No unfortunately they don't, but if the group in front of us are particularly slow, we usually ask them if we can borrow a torch!

Fact is, it's dark when I go to work and dark when I come home - 8am and 5pm. So it makes no never mind either way. I'd just really rather not have the bother of changing all the time pieces in my home: 8 clocks, a cooker, a fax machine and the (old) video. Thank God all the rest - computer, Palm top, alarm clock, tv and clock in the car - reset themselves! Wish they all would.

It's the microwave clock I have problems remembering how to change, which can make further problems as it's the one I most often look at when I'm in the kitchen!

I've done plenty of jobs where I have been indoors all day, not getting a chance to go outside, apart from a brief walk at lunchtime. It's fact of life with a lot of jobs nowadays. I just wish they'd leave the clocks where they are - as they are now.

Of course the most important clock to change this time is the one on the central heating boiler!
