And how to keep them in?

    I mean the cats.
    We have three cats, my husband loves them. However, our neighbour loves birds. We have a big garden and I would like to keep them our side of the fence. I can see my neighbours point ....
    Any ideas?

    Armandii will be able to help you with this I think Annemieke. :)

      There are a couple of options;

      One is to make a cat run in the garden, so they can still get outside time without getting the birds.

      The second is to put up non-scalable fencing, so your cats get uninhibited run of your garden but don't get into your neighbour's.

      Another option is to get a bell on their collars. Cats hunt birds differently to how they hunt mice and other rodents, and bells often work to make the birds fly off when the cat pounces. Obviously this isn't 100%!

      As Ellen suggested, non-scalable fencing is the only sure way, and as high as you are allowed.

      Have a look here for some options (wouldn't recommend the electric fencing option though). Would ignore the electric fence option!

      I like the katzecure option. Not sure how expensive it is but you could do something similar yourself.

      Our neighbours put orange peel down in the garden where whey don't want our cats 'doing their business'. Apparently it works very well. Perhaps some along the border would deter them?

      Thanks for all the tips! Not sure whether they will work on our cats, and/or how expensive some of them are, but I'll look into it.

      Tell the neighbours sorry but they're cats. Ever tried herding them?! Put the bell collars on because everything else will be pointless

      Do these fences actually work? I was looking at the pics thinking surely an agile cat could be up and over those fences and do a runner? Perhaps I'm thinking of my Burmese cat who was that stubborn he would have seen it as his life's mission to undertake a Great Escape! :cat-kittyandsmiley::biggrin:

        :) Just to explain if you use the @ symbol before a member's name it 'tags' them. That means the member gets an alert (maybe an email). You'll see that the word ARMANDII is a clickable link in my post above.

        Our ARMANDII is well known for having built structures in his garden to contain his cats, he will be along at some point :dbgrtmb:
