Yes - purple, almost red stems. The leaves come out in pairs from the main stem. It's a climber of some kind.

Hi Kalmia. Clicking the wikipedia link points to a much thicker (and green) stemmed plant, but your picture looks exactly like our plant.

Seeing as the wiki entry is about what a problematic weed it is, I guess we'll keep it in it's pot! We were thinking it was a climber, but it seems to be more of a sprawling, ground-cover plant.

It looks very much like a tradescanthia to me. There were two varieties that I recall us selling as pot plants on the nursery. One that is green with silvery veins in it, which your plant reminds me of or the other is purple backed green leaves with purple veins running through it. If it is it you can easily grow cuttings in water.

I have taken some photos of my tradescanthia I have hanging outside now but I winter it indoors. It has reverted to its orginal green where it was actually varigated originally. See what you think.

Yeah - they look good. Hanging baskets it will have to be.

Thanks everyone, for helping me out with this.
