This afternoon Grandson Harry and I went to the park. On the way out we found a swallow lying very still in the road. Thinking it was dead we picked him up, and although still alive he lay very still and limp with beak wide open. I warned Harry that he would probably die of shock even if he wasn't hurt, but Harry got him a drink and he slurped eagerly from Harrys' dripping finger. He then began to show more signs of life, crouching rather than lying and gripping Harrys' fingers quite strongly.
We decided that if he was going to survive we shouldn't handle him any more, so mindful of difficulties flying from ground level we put him in the window box amongst the shady flowers, with a drink, and left him to it. When we returned 1/2 hour later he was gone.
Grandson was immensely pleased at having helped wildlife. and I was pleased he'd recovered but gutted that I'd completely forgotten to take a picture of this beautiful tiny bird, 90% wing, sitting quietly but alert in Harrys' hand. [IMG]
