    My first visit to this garden, on a cold, fairly dull Easter Saturday.
    While the winter garden was still looking quite colourful, there was plenty of interest to be found around other parts of the garden and grounds too. :)

      Lovely photos Trunky. It's a place we keep meaning to go and see the winter lights.

          It's a lovely place to go to. :blue thumb:

          The winter garden is well worth the visit just on its own. It was designed and built by Richard Ayres CBE, now retired. He lives in the village by the Abbey and opens his garden for charity, in the summer. That's well worth the visit as well. There's usually four or five gardens open and are listed in the Yellow Book.

          @Trunky have they finished digging out the herbaceous border. They were carefully removing all the plants so they could work on eliminating the bindweed.

          There must be 400 or 500 foot of bed and 10-15ft deep.

            @shiney The area containing the herbaceous borders was roped off when we visited, so we didn't get a close look. From what we could see, there were a few empty looking areas in the borders, so I guess operation 'bindweed' is ongoing.

            They look wonderfully colourful in your photos Shiney, now I'll have to pay another visit in the summer to see them at their best. :dbgrtmb:

              @Trunky Thanks:blue thumb:

              Your comment and photo reminded me that I was wrong. We had chatted to one of the gardeners and he told us that they had, originally, thought to dig it all out but then decided against it. I then remembered I had taken a photo of this

              Did you take a visit inside the mill? It's a working mill and they sell the flour they produce. It's not open all week but just a few days a week. You can wander round inside and climb up the ladders to the upper level. Although it's open for visits a few days a week I think they only produce flour infrequently.

                This garden is close to where my brother lives and he visits a lot, so I often see photos, and have been myself. Your out of season photos have really captured the essence of the place, thanks Trunky :smile:
                Thanks shiney too, I've not been in the summer and hadn't even realised those borders are there :hate-shocked:
                Love your new gargoyle avatar Trunky :wub2:

                  We did go around that part of the garden Shiney, but didn't go inside the mill. It was very busy there at the time, so we decided against going inside, what with all those people milling around...
