Just a quick note to say hi.

I live in the central belt of Scotland, my garden is about 5 years old now, it was a new house when we moved in and I have basically set it up from scratch (with a few wrong turns along the way) and nearly have it so I am happy with it... well apart from a few problem areas which I am sure I will be picking peoples brains over!!

This year I am trying to grow veg in pots as well, potatoes, beans, carrots and salad stuff outside and tomatoes, courgettes and peppers in my conservatory and in a grow house. So far they seem to be doing ok, I have harvested one shaw of tatties a couple of weeks ago which tasted great but were a bit small so I have not tried any more... but I might this afternoon if I am feeling brave...

    Welcome Black Cat

We used to grow our potatoes in our veg plot but under black plastic. We put the plastic down (keeping it down by running some earth around the edge - and it keeps the light out), cut a hole in it (two cuts, in a cross) and planted the spuds through it. They didn't need earthing up and when we wanted to harvest them we just lifted the edge of the plastic, rummaged around by hand and removed the larger ones and laid the plastic back down to allow the small ones to carry on growing. It was very succesful but I am sure some of our veggie experts will give you better advice.

We don't grow root veggies anymore, just above ground ones.

    Thanks for the welcome.

I read about doing tatties in bags after I had planted them and was thinking of trying that next year. I assume you earth them up by topping up the bag as you go along. How full do you fill the bags??
