Hi @alison worrall I could be very wrong and if I am someone else will soon put that right, but it looks like Jasmin - Jasminum officinale Is it in a pot or the ground.?
I have one and it is just coming into flower now, but it flowers on last years growth.. I will trim it back when it has finished flowering..
So I make sure my pruning is done by mid-summer, because pruning later You remove the next season’s buds that may already be forming. Heavy pruning for this plant is encouraged because if done at the right time it will encourage more and bigger blooms. So I give mine a hard cut back then...

If in a pot they like to be pot bound to flower well and the ones in the ground usually take longer to establish a good root ball to start flowering if roots are not constricted..
      Hope that helps..
