another rose question

    hi. I'm not sure how clearly you can see this but the rose in my front garden had a really large dead part of it. Is this normal? Should I do something with it or leave it. Its been there since i moved in so no idea of age or type - sorry. its a bush with hot pink flowers....

    Hi mztrouble I cannot get the Photo to appear ,Its probably me, If you are really sure its dead it should be cut out,If you just rub your finger nail over it just to take the outside cover off and its Green in colour then its alive ,but until i can actually see the extent of the the damage this is all I can advise,hope this is of some help to you.:)

    From the look of it I'd say cut out the dead bit, but not too close to the growing part. It could have died off for any number of reasons. As long as the growing part does not exhibit any problems let it grow and prune as normal next february, or this autumn if you prefer autumn pruning.

    thankyou kalmia! So I can cut off all that dead wood then? Ace - it takes up a fair bit of space tbh!
