I haven't a clue what these are. The first has a bud which looks Solanum like. The second has a bud coming which looks daisy like.

Evening, strongy. Regarding the first plant, if you think it looks like a Solanum, it could be the S wendlandii which has a large ruffly lilac coloured bloom and is spikey?

I have just got one rooted which my Sis nicked (ssssshhh) a piece from a garden in Algoz.

Someone here (?????) has one ... maybe he will come on and give a positive ID.

Haven't got a clue on the second plant.

top one looks like it is a solanum, the Solanum quitoense on this page http://www.singingspringsnursery.com/page6.html fits the discription and the photo looks similar too, although have found it on other sites and the leaves differed??

Mike, you haven't encountered Bougainvilleas or Lantana obviously! Roses are tame compared to other things.

2nd plant reminds me of the wild plant fox and cubs. the leaves of that are hairy to but haven't seen it with the dark markings on. will probably be from the same family(hieracium) if thats any help?

I think you've got it on the Solanum, glenw ... a real nasty piece of work! Are there any positive attributes to this plant ... like something pretty?

Thanks LoL and Glen, looks like Solanum Quitoense according to the link. I think I will pot it on and see how it grows the spines are fairly soft so it isn't as evil as it appears, I found it in a geranium pot in coir compost so it could have come from anywhere.
Lol, I have had a few arguments with Bougies and come off worse.

LOL - just read( thats meant as in "i have just read..."i'm not ordering you to read!!!) a bit more about the solanum, apparently the fruit is edible but the juice is more commonly consumed. will you be brave enough to try it if you get some Strongy??

glenw ... am I to assume you are laughing and not speaking to me ????

Sounds dodgy to me as Solanum can be hit and miss as far as poisonous goes, so to speak ... strongy can be our tester, me-thinks?
