After re-seeding our lawn and pulling it back from weeds and drought, we now have bare patchescall over caused by ants. It's not cats, they would be on the cctv. How to get rid of them?

Are you sure the ants are the cause and not a symptom?

From what I've observed over the years, ants don't really attack plants. They do however tend to make their nests in very dry patches of ground, including really dry patches of former lawn.

I'm sure @Clueless 1 v2 could be right, perhaps something under those areas? But I have also seen ants collect grass seed. I stop at them coming in the house, but love watching the birds putting them under their wings...

It's a bit early in the year for it to be ants.

    Have you got a dog?
