There isnt any really efective method of control, ant dust and boiling water etc only kill a few.

I leave my rotary mower running over the mounds for several minutes and 'hoover' up the little devils;) then give the area a puff of Nippon. Seems to sort them :thumb:

If you leave a very thin scattering of an powder around the nest (the pest control officer suggests applying it with a small pain brush - that thin) the ants will walk it back into the nest and poison the nest. They always seem to reappear months later though

Aren't the red ones the bitey ones?

(Another option would be to keep chickens which will have hours of fun scratching your lawn to pieces while removing every single ant!)

try disturbing the nest by digging into it and apply the antkiller - this helps it get further into the nest. I use a Wolf weeding knife for opening up the nest

I didn't know that you get red ants in this country. specially the bitey ones.

I must be lucky because I only get black ants and they don't bite and I usually talk them into moving elsewhere.:thumb:

Hi, Ants in the lawn are a real pain, but last year I got a very special bonus!!!!
I had a Wryneck visit my garden, apparently they love ants, What an amazing sight, two stripes down his back like a Badger, a member of the Woodpecker family. Worth putting up with the Ants? just that once Yeah!!!!
