Now that Ozzy has had time to settle in and get to know us better, I'm thinking it is time to take him to dog training classes. He does know the basics, but he can be a tad .... stubborn ;)

I think it would do us both good :heehee:

I've carried out a Google search and looked at a couple nearest to me, but, I'm wondering how I "judge" which would be the right one? Qualifications would be a start I suppose but, not being familiar with those, its just gobbledygook.

Anyone have any experience on choosing a good class? What to look for/avoid?

    TIA :)

Maybe attend a class without Ozzy and chat to the trainer there. Also talk to a few dog owners to see how their dogs have responded.

For Abi I guess they provided a bit of extra stimulation, training with distractions and improved social skills.

I recall walking away from one trainer when she yelled at a dog. Should never yell at the dog, they hear well you know. If the dog did not "get it" it is not the dogs fault but the trainer has to rethink how to get the dog to understand, and with patience. Also, always finish a routine with something "fun". and always make it like fun.

Both my GSD went to classes, beginning and advance, and I had a couple of good books from successful trainers of that breed. Yes, classes are good to provide social and distraction environment. And must do homework.

How to tell a good trainer, see what their dog is like, and does it look happy and content to do the command.
