I've had quite a few things off eBay. They have generally been small, as reflected by the price, but I have a big garden to fill, so I've been happy to buy small and wait a while. I've also grown lots of perennials from seed, and I've bought plug plants from Van Meuwen.com - they needed quite a lot of nurturing, came at various times through the year, had no information about my order and when things would arrive on their website, but they did come roughly when expected - just be prepared for things to be small.

" but was a bit wary"

I know what you mean ... I look at the number of feedbacks, and then read the feedback (100% good may still have plenty of "Took ages to get here" type texts! or "plants rather small" which can be indicators)

I was going to suggest eBay too, but it pays to look around before using sellers there exclusively, as like any other online shop some are more expensive than others.

I try to avoid eBay, and only use it as a last resort if I can't find what I'm looking for elsewhere. That's because everything I've ever bought from eBay turned out to be rubbish, but then maybe I've just had bad luck in that area:(

Try premier seeds direct on ebay stores, excellent value for money.

I just bought 6 Lythrum plants for £2.99 plus postage on ebay. Plants arrived well packed, looking healthy, with a good root system and new growth.

I take eBay as a gamble and would not buy something very expensive unless I knew the seller very well. But then a lot of online stores send sub standard plants out too for a lot more money than eBay sellers.

Of course you could try posting in the wanted section here-I've had great responses from that :)

I second that about "JD" quality plants every year, AND NO POSTAGE!

Unlike other well known so called plant specialists with their "high transport costs".

Last year I treated myself to some very expensive plants from 4 different nurseries.

One lot was really really excellent.

Another lot had one plant replaced (it was an OAP plant).

One nurseriy actually replaced the whole lot, they were total rubbbish that had been sent in the first place.

The other crew actually replaced their plants twice, the first replacement plants had brown roots, the second replacements were not much better!

I shall not be troubling the dodgy ones with an order in future, that's for sure.

My pal ordered a computer part off someone advertising on E-bay, it did not arrive, he put it down to experience. The problem is the crooks get everone else a bad name, and there are lots of honest people out there!

    Cheers!

I've bought quite a few plants and seeds from ebay and haven't had a problem so far - I just be careful to read their feedback first like kristen describes.

You could also look on freecycle, I've seen quite a few plants offered on our local one.
