    Hi all,
Planted out these hostas about 3 or 4 weeks ago, last couple of days this damage has appeared on them, any idea what is causing it? And a solution?
I did put some slug pellets down a week or 2 ago.
    Cheers.

If it’s not slugs it’s likely to be snails. Snails can be tiny so look carefully at the base of the leaves and remove them. I have a couple of Hostas with similar damage and found the culprit to be a snail.

Just be aware that too many pellets around a plant can have the opposite effect - it attracts the slugs, so, annoyingly, it can make the problem even worse.

Some snails are so tiny they're almost impossible to see, but the slugs are as bad - or worse. It's slugs here that do the most damage to plants.

Any chance you had a hail shower recently?
Otherwise I'd go for a mollusc

Definitely no hail showers of late......
Just lounging in bed with a coffee, will have a wander out and see if there's been any more damage overnight

If you want perfect hostas then I'm afraid you will have to do some night raids and get them in action. Unfortunately I haven't found any other method that works. If you want to make a pungent garlic spray be my guest but find raids reduce numbers hugely and quickly. After a few weeks doing them every other night it depletes the current generation and you can indeed relax and enjoy them.

The slug pellets won’t eradicate all munches - there’s always one that finds a gap, or was hiding under the plant.
