I planted two new plants last summer - I had no idea about gardening back then and didn't keep note of the names of the plants.
    One has since died.
I think this may be the one which had tall thin spikes covered in bluey purple flowers ...I may be wrong.

 Hmm Could be one of the Monardas, maybe fistulosa.. I don't think it is Bee Balm.. Leaves don't look quite right for a daisy type but I could easily be wrong, see what others say..

Is it quite a tall plant or low growing?

Could be Buddleia (although happy to stand corrected).

Did the flowers look like this?

Thanks, it's low growing at the moment but still it's doubled in size from last year.
The flowers are thinner and quite dry looking. The closest thing ive found to how it looked last year is Nepeta - Blue Infinity but the leaves on my plant are much more tightly packed together and there's also no space between the flowers.

It looks a little like this when in bloom....

I thought it looked a bit like borage. Are the leaves furry and smell slightly of cucumber when you crush them? If so, it's borage.
