My friends and I who are all on AOL seem to be having HUGE problems of late.

It's silly things really like not being able to connect to Photo Bucket etc. Nearly all the pictures on this site I can't even see and as for my little digging pirate he's gone awol!

I know AOL is swapping things about maybe that's what the problem is? Any idea's?
    Thanks in advance.Hel.xxx.

Helen. AOL was taken over recently by Cowboy Warehouse, just as my ISP, Pipex was grabbed by Tiscali. Both of these companies are renowned for lousy services and my connection speeds have dropped by two thirds since November.

If the ISP is causing it (and on reputation it almost certainly is) then migration is the only answer. Trouble is that Talk-talk and Tiscali are grabbing ISPs like there is no tomorrow so who I am going to move to in May when my contract matures I do not know. I moved from Tiscali to Pipex last year and 3 months later Tiscali bought Pipex and it is now just as bad.

Have you thought about migrating to BT John?
I've just run a test via the site you mentioned in another post and I'm getting 6.2Mbps this morning which is pretty close to the maximum I can expect on my line.

Helen - AOL is and always has been, legendary for quirky connection and traffic problems.

Thanks guys I contacted AOL yesterday and today it seems all is working fine.

Dave I have been with AOL for a great many years I only swapped to Freeserve (where did they get too?)from AOL because it was cheaper only to have Freeserve knock us off without any warnings because we abused the system too much ...... having online gaming boys it was pretty easy to knock up the time spent on the internet!

Hopefully AOL will be settled now as I would have been unhappy to move elsewhere, better the devil you know than the devil you don't. [IMG] Hel.xxx.

[IMG] Glad you are all working OK again Helen.. ;) :D Left AOL yrs ago & went to Freeserve, which (if my memory serves me right) became Wanadoo & the last buy out for them was from Orange & I have to say their package is very good. Excellent line speed & the calls are cheap too, plus quite a few extras that BT charge for..!!! Their help desk I admit is in India, but you can understand them perfectly & I have not had a problem sorting anything out with them! All always been done quickly, pleasantly & efficiently... :D I have to say I do not like the calls to India by any firm, but will go with this for the moment..!!! [IMG]

I've reached my breaking point - he snapped.

After yet another outage I emailed Pipex, told them they were in breach of contract, and demanded a MAC code. They ignored 2 emails so I contacted Ofcom. Who opened a dispute. Some hours later I got an email from Pipex telling me that the only way to get a MAC code was to phone an 0871 number at 50p a minute. So I spent a total of 90 minutes in queues only to not get through. They are not allowed to charge for MAC codes so this is the latest scam.

I am once again contacting Ofcom and issuing a County Court summons for the return of my £45.

Oh dear just when I thought AOL had sorted their problems out we loose our internet connect once again!

It was out from early evening yesterday and to make matters worst even our friend near Barnsley had her connect lost too and kept texting us to see if our's was back on.

This is far from ok we pay for the service not for it to be out of action and after all I'm sure as hell (sorry for the pun) that AOL will not give us a reduction on the monthly fee just because of our little inconvenience!Hel.xxx.

Well I got my MAC code one hour before the deadline. We had a lovely game of 'chicken', and Pipex blinked first. All I need now is my £45 - and I'll get it too. I've signed up with Fast.co.uk which gets very good reports so I'll keep you informed.
