    Hi

    Have large slab of concreted area in back yard and trying to think of options to change it. (Think previous owners had dog kennels on it) Area on left behind red brick wall is to get arbor entrance with small picket fence and paved central area for seating. So don't really need another seating area and is putting me of decking over the concrete. Any thoughts? Ignore the dirt of the pavers(was actually cleaned last yr!) BCK1.jpg BCK2.jpg

    Whats that rectangular shaped thing in the first picture? Is it a water feature, I can't make it out.

    Personally I'd break the concrete up and either turn it into a bed or a water feature. :)

      You could maybe have a raised pond on it:dbgrtmb:

        If it was me I would be building a nice wooden greenhouse on it (after extending the concrete).
        Other ideas include;
        An outdoor oven and permanent barbeque.
        Build a multi level raised bed over and around it.
        An outdoor aviary.

            Ah sorry, I thought the concreted area was the triangular bit on the 2nd photo.

            Well I'd go for a nice greenhouse as longk suggests, or a summerhouse to make a feature of it.

              Me too. I wondered why I couldn't see any dirt on it. Was beginning to wonder if my standards were really, really low!

                Do you have a long shot of the whole area? I suspect that decking will not work as the spot looks offset.

                Good morning for me simplicity I would build a raised bed and fill it full of nature's colour's, just to brighten the back garden up a little or put a sturdy trellis up and a climbing Rose in a container in front of the trellis(it would block that other house out in the background and the Rose would look fantastic:):blue thumb:

                  Here's my thoughts.................
                  The purpose of decking is provide a hard area to stand/sit/congregate on. You already have that with the paving, so decking there would just appear superfluous as there is not even any symmetry. So my thoughts are that what goes there should be either functional or ornamental. Although not cheap, an old fashioned horse drawn plough sympathetically painted or something similar is another thought.

                  I do agree, covering a usable area with wood to make it just as usable albeit maybe better looking. That was my argument, that we wouldn't gain much by decking. Still undecided. Busy with arbor/pergola thingy in the corner for next few wks, get that sorted first and revisit at some stage.
                  Cheers
