it is quite far inland but i have a car + roof rack so i head over to the east coast if there is any swell, usually scarborough, but most of my surfing is done in cornwall, cant wait to come back... 9 weeks and counting!

Used to do a lot of bodyboarding on hols in cornwall when I was a kid, absolutely loved it but haven't been for years now - and my surfboard is missing presumed melted since some yobbo(s) set my mum and dad's caravan on fire!

The Spawns all love bodyboarding and the eldest tries to surf. Not me!!! Water's for washing and whisky :D :D I think all surfers are insane!! You see them at Portreath with that deadly rip, in terrible conditions in the Winter, wearing crash helmets because of the rocks  I'm sat in the nice warm car eating a pasty, counting them to make sure none of them have been swept out to sea  And the East coast must be colder...brrrrrr!! Mad I tell you!! [IMG] :D

try doing 9 hours!! i've not surfed portreath as it always seems to be flat, i did surf porthtowan, sennen and watergate bay this year though, WB was awesome and it was my first surf on my new board, i got excited and traded in my old one! Rips aren't really deadly unless your out there not knowing or thinking about them, you just paddle sideways to them to get out of them! i think those helmets are actually hoods to keep our heads warm, otherwise you get 'ice cream headache' where your head gets wet then is exposed to cold air... and it hurts! I was surfing in Wales in november 05 in the snow, it was awesome... not so much fun getting out of the wetsuit in the car park at the end though!!
Where you from in kernow WM?

My parents live near Portreath but I live on the other coast near Falmouth - no surf here much to Spawn1s disgust!!!! They're definately crash helmets Andy....it's in the Winter when the best surfs crashing in at the side of the jetty over the rocks...they're the sort skaters wear...but it's only the hardened mad-heads who do it
As for the rips there...it's claimed quite a few I'm afraid, generally 1 a year. There's a bench near the shops inscribed to a boy from the village it got a couple of years ago...
So people, a word of warning when holidaying in Cornwall, please don't let your kids in the sea in dinghys unless they are tethered ( the dinghys, not the kids!) Sounds obvious I know, but you'll be surprised how many don't think of it!!!
There's good surf near St.Agnes have you been there Andy????

i've not, unfortunately everytime i come it tends to be rubbish!! ive also surfed newquay (fistral & towan) and perranporth. Ah fair enough, not been in the crazy conditions, it is pretty rocky at portreath. I stopped at a new holiday park called gwen al moor was really nice, the dwellings are all wooden, based on ski challets. Its just down the road from tehidy country park, which is where we used to stay.
And everyone listen to WM about the sea, stay out.. more room for me!! no but seriously do take heed, its too easy for people to get pulled out to sea and get stranded, keep an eye on those little terrors!

Oh come on Andy, as a QS you have plenty of time!!! We all know you don't do any 'real' work :D :D :D
It's funny how the word spreads when the surfs up...and you see them running trying to zip up their wetsuits as they go!! But the best bit about surfers is their total lack of inhibitions when getting out of their wet-suits...not that I'm a perv or anything [IMG]

You should try cutting one off them Windy!! [IMG] If you've dislocated your shoulder - it's the only way! And you're right about the dangers - be aware and stay safe! That way I can put my feet up and have another cup of tea!! :D

I'm planning to try out for the air ambulance in the not too distant future. [IMG] Gotta do some 'work experience' with them first - see if I like flying! Not that we're all a bunch of posers or anything!

Now, where did I put that cup of tea!?

dont do any work, you must be kidding!! im kept stupidly busy and am more often than not on the road for meetings! taking the wetsuit off can be the worst and the best bit! worst when its freezing cold, snowing or raining, best when its nice and you've been restricted in a neoprene suit for 3hours!
