I visited an open garden recently and saw the above flowering beautifully. Lovely little white pompom flowers, great foliage (a big plus as I like good foliage plants) and certainly where I live bridges the gap between the true Spring flowering herbaceous and the summer flowerers.
I've had a look on the net and the RHS says the plant needs to be in a sheltered spot and was wondering if this really is the case. Living in Scotland I do have to seriously take winter hardiness into consideration and the specimen I saw recently was in a walled garden and hence was sheltered. Unfortunately the owners of the garden were not on hand to ask them about the plant. I was wondering if it is cold or winter wet which is the "problem". I have pretty free draining soil so that isn't so much of a issue but cold can be. Would be really helpful to get 1st hand knowledge from anyone that grows this plant. They aren't that easy to source no doubt that equals expensive! and don't want to waste my time/money getting a plant which won't do well here. Thanks.

No responses as yet so this makes me think this plant is tricky? It's such a lovely variety I think it would be more widely grown if not difficult. Obviously the few places that sell it are going to tell me it's easy! Perhaps I'll have a rethink about sourcing it.
