Does any clever person out there know what this climbing rose is called?

It is, to judge from the leaves and the fact that it blooms only once, a rambler. My neighbour, who is ninety, planted it around sixty-five years ago. It was a twig which she begged from a friend's garden, stuck in the ground and forgot until it started to bloom. It has done so each summer ever since, with no attention other than the odd trim.

The flowers are about 6-7 cm across when fully open and they don't have much perfume.

It is nice, isn't it, Penny! I think I'm going to try to take some cuttings - if the original grew from a twig which was just stuck into the ground, hopefully it won't be too difficult to get some to strike.

Unfortunately my neighbour hasn't been well recently and has had to go into a home to convalesce. I don't think she misses housework, but she does miss her garden, so we are taking a few snaps of the plants so she can keep an eye on them.

Hi ClaraLou, best I can do although its very difficult to Identify a Rose out of 47,000 different named ones.:)
Going back to about 1945 approximately, and of course it could have lost its scent over the years and the way it was propagated it could be that its not a true Bloom, might be able to help more when its in full flower.:)

Oh dear ... it sounds as though I've set you rather a task, Woo :D. Thank you for the possibilities. I don't think it's 'Albertine', which I believe is a coppery colour when in bud, but as you say it's very difficult to tell, especially from one bloom. Maybe I'll post some more pics when it really gets going (and we actually get a bit of sun to encourage it). Whatever it is, it's certainly very tough and durable ... a bit like my wonderful neighbour!

Is it a Rambler or a Climber ClaraLou.
Looks like a Climber. Big Diffeence.
Don't know any Rambler that looks like that.
Climber - well they come by the thousand - would be difficult to identify on the basis of a snapshot.
