I think I've finally killed my comfy 70s beige corduroy sofa & no amount of duct tape is going to fix it this time - so can anyone recommend where I should look for a replacement ? I don't want anything fancy, just a three seater fabric sofa that I can slob on after work & can be used by the occasional overnight guest.

I dont mind spending some £££, but if I do I want it to last another 20 years like the last one (which was free!) - has anyone bought one recently from somewhere they would recommend ? or from somewhere that they would not ?

    Any ideas welcome.

    Nick.

We bought a new sofa & armchairs about 4 years ago from SCS furniture, liked the choice better than DFS or Harveys!!

bought 2 recliner sofas from Harveys last Novemeber, cos they were cheaper than anything else round here. I dont recommend them. The service is good, I just don't like the recliners. not as comfy as a normal sofa and you CANT lay on it like a normal sofa. :(

Go to a second-hand shop. I think if stuff is going to all apart quickly, it will do so in its first year, so if you see good quality second-hand stuff, it is probably going to last well and save you a fortune too.

We were lucky here. When I bought my house getting on for 3 years ago, we left most of our old furniture behind, and gave some of it away. My dad gave us his old leather settees (a 2 seater and matching 3 seater). I know he'd had them for a fair few years before me, and he always has loads of dogs, and he's an outdoors sort so basically the sofas took some punishment. Then since coming into my ownership, they've had to cope with a child jumping all over them regularly. They are still as good as new. Being leather, a wipe with a damp cloth is all it takes to keep them clean too.

We bought ours from DFS nearly four years ago - curved shape four seater sofa and two chairs, with electric recliners; very comfy, and the delivery and service from DFS was spot on.

I know they aren't the most popular due to their never-ending sales, but we couldn't fault them.

DO NOT BUY FROM SCS!!!! OMG we made that mistake and have regretted it ever since. Cheap, poorly made and nothing but trouble. They also have poor customer service!! Once they have your money they don't want to know you. HORRIBLE!!

If you get one off freecycle check its got the flame retardant foam, the old stuff will kill you if it catches fire with the cyanide gas before the flames get you.
