I put two in last autumn and there is still not a sign of life on them - they literally look like sticks in the ground. I have a couple of other types of hydrangea - the hortensia type - and they are all budded. Have I managed to kill them, do you think? They are in a fairly sheltered south-facing part of the garden.

(This is becoming a theme of my postings: "have I killed this plant stone dead?")

I didn't think it was possible to kill a hydrangea - I thought they were indestructible.

Not necessarily. I have plants that haven't come into leaf yet whilst all around are blooming. For some reason mine are always slow to start. If you have moved them then they may be holding back as the roots may not be so well established. I'd give them at least till the end of May.

Gaz, I got mine from Shrubs Direct on-line http://www.shrubsdirect.com/

They only deliver by the palette load, though, so delivery is a shocker. Most of the stuff from them is pretty good. The perennials were massive and ready for division immediately, so two for the price of one though.
