Strong winds and fleshy plants do not mix.

Bigger they are the harder they fall.

Angelica stood back up fine with a bit of tying in, will recover. It is about 6 foot already and is going to be prone to gusts. I will remember next year to tie it down in preparation.

Banana already has a new leaf brewing so no real loss but very disconcerting in this wind when everything seems to move sideways.

Yes - wind is playing havoc with my taller geraniums. They'll take no lasting harm, but they do look untidy. If I cut them hard back now, I should get a second flush of flowers later. Ground cover and less tall geraniums are fine

Most of the plants are wind tollerant, banana leaves are reproduced in a week, and tall tree ferns are permenantly tied, its just the angelica which caught me out. I only planted it last year a 99p 9cm pot clearance jobby which I took pitty on. Boy has it repaid in spades, just a shame all this wind has come now.

Its wreaking havoc with my lilac blooms but so far most other things have stood up the gusts quite well.

Sorry your angelica was damaged Bananaman - hope it recovers soon.

    Thanks Fran,

Fortunately the bed was pretty dry and it lifted rather than snapped. I have been a good environmentalist this year and not used my hose pipe so much.

Thank god it's not just me! Local news forecast 70mph winds on Thursday night and it certainly looked like it Friday morning. Next doors fence has gone (for good this time). She insists it's my Albertine knocking it over when in reality it's her husbands Destroy-It-Yourself skills. His idea of fencing is old pallets....grrrr. Must go off and find my happy place :D

My Oleanders have taken a battering and don't like it at all, cool spring weather is not good for flower bud development. :(

I had planned to take my second trip to Norfolk this week - to visit Blickling Hall and a few other places. Looking at the weather forecast it ain't the best week for such plans both cool and wet - so sadly postponed til mid June. Hopefully the rhodies will still be out then as everything is a bit late.

Maybe take a few local day trips instead this week - Anglesey Abbey and Stowe, maybe.
