Christmas should officially start on December the first ! Articles and adverts on it before the date should be illegal, punishable by having to listen to Cliff Richards new album. :snorky: It's just bommy night and I can't believe the amount of xmas adverts on TV already .

Having spent my life in retail management, it took many years after I took early retirement before I started to like Christmas. In my job it was always a question of getting the Christmas ordering right. Much of the ordering having to be done in the Summer. Always a concern (I never "worried")
Then relaying the store to accommodate the Christmas lines. Boxing day became a working day as although not open, you needed to oversee the mounting of the January sale. Eventually stores started opening on that day. So Christmas was never a holiday.

Even now when doing the normal weekly shop Christmas week, I can't help "working," noticing where a big store has obviously got over-stock problems etc.,

Yes I'm feeling so Christmassy. Snowed all day here in Calgary AB. My Christmas lights are hung on the house and garage, actually I didn't bother taking them down last March. My nose and cheeks are red from being out in the -10C shoveling all morning. AND I hoping that it really snows so I can use my new snow blower. All I have done is start it up put it in drive and go forward and backwards a bit and then the thrill of engaging the blades. lol

We're not that much into Christmas decorations. apart from stringing up Christmas cards.
We never have a tree. I noticed there was one in the loft when I was up there sorting out the TV aerial a couple of weeks ago, all securely wrapped up. But we haven't used it for twenty years.

However we are into Christmas lights, but hate blue ones.

We have red berry fairy lights on the pergola next to our koi pool. They come on via a timer every evening all year round.

There's more round the eaves of the Tea House. They come on when I turn on the lights in the garden (all twelve of them).

But for Christmas we have more red berry lights, strung around the arch surround of the front door, as do many of our neighbours as they all have similarly built houses.

I don't do Chrismas or politics BUT..................... Even I can think of a few politicians that could well replace the fairy on the tree. Ooops, Ouch! Mind where you're poking that tree.

My memories of Christmas. This was about the only time of the year you'd see an apple or orange. Presents... what were they. Times were hard. My old mum, bless her heart was always so delighted if there was a present for me hidden away. Yes! she couldn't help but telling me. One year the present was a magic lantern. It consisted of a flat type torch with a push on frontal extension that had an adjustable lens and a holder for a film strip. The film strip was about twelve inces long, basic cellophane and some painted images of Mickey Mouse. Come Christmas morning. I had almost worn the filmstrip out.

Then Chrismas night, my uncle and aunt from three doors away would come in. Those days, even the poorest had a 'Front room or parlour. A piano was a must, although very few were ever played. Mum and dad had bought my sister, sixteen years older than me, this piano. Mum could knock out a tune, my aunt, mum's sister was pretty good . My uncle Fred, ex CPO RN, always tried to get dad drunk. It was Uncle Fred who required help to get home and would wake up with a hangover. I did ask dad, how he remained sober. Drink slow and eat. So mums mince pies went down well.

Now take your partners for a dance. Any women present would take to the floor and th music would ring out. Even to this day 70 plus years later. Why do elderly women grab their skirts or dresses and bare their knees? If I sat there dumbfounded I'd get a clip around the ear and be told to join in. Next I'd get another clip and be told. Stop acting silly and daft, learn to grow up. Now realizing the hypocracy connected with this festive season. I sit back. Watch and save money.

I'm looking forward to when it's all over, when everybody else is staying at home because they're skint and there's room in town centre car parks, no huge queues in the shops and there's loads of reduced stuff.
