    Evening all.

I'm thinking of growing some asparagus pea plants this year for the first time (for me). I was thinking of growing them in a flower bed in the front garden, figuring the local kids won't recognise them as something worth pinching.

Has anyone grown them? (Ok, I know the answer is yes, I mean anyone on here?)

Was tempted in the seed batalogue yesterday but didn't go for it as i've still got a load of tall heritage pea seeds from last year.

Raised bed allotment Summer 2008 - YouTube

Steve R directed me to this guy's website. He has an allotment in Liverpool, not far from me. On the video link above he says "these are some asparagus peas I planted as an experiment, and I'm going to dig them up because they are absolutely foul"!

I'm new to growing veg, so I haven't tried them personally. IMHO they look pretty but not tasty....

I have, a few years back but not enough to eat. Am having another go at it this year. More plants so might get edible ones this time........

Faff to pick (must pick them tiny), and I thought they were a marvellous-mouthful-of-nothing. Won't bother again. may be worth doing once though -who knows, maybe you will be hugely successful AND think they are the best tasting veg you have every eaten!

            Tried once, not bothered again:

            Salsify
            Salzonera (sp?)
            Asparagus Pea

Ditto Snap, us too. No taste and a millimetre too long and they are as stringy as............er a ball of string.

I think I'm going to give them a shot, just because they look quite pretty. I'll just grow a few and see how it goes.

I agree, I think you should too. But beware that's exactly what I thought at the start of the season when I grew then!

I have always been persuaded that seeing them, year after year, in the seed packet display stands that there must be some repeat sales, year on year, otherwise it wouldn't be cost effective to include them ... I've yet to meet the repeat buyers though!
