Just wanted to know about the procedure, the after effects, and what they felt like after.

It looks like my husband Peter will have to have one. He has a pulse of 44, they changed his medication, this bought it back up, but it has dropped back down to 44.

3 years ago he has a quadruple bypass, and he is thinking it is going to be hell again.

I have tried to reassure him, but a bit more knowledge might help.

    Cheers.

Sorry to hear Peter is unwell.
My MIL had one, but I have no idea of the procedure/recovery (she wasn't in a "friendly" state of mind before, during or shortly after ... as was her way).
Wishing him a successful operation and a speedy recovery.

Maybe he could find information and support from this website? http://www.pacemakerclub.com/public/jpage/1/p/Home/content.do

My mother had one fitted some 10 - 15 years before she died. It was fitted as a matter of urgency. Within a couple of days of having it fitted, local anaesthetic and sedation, she was back on her feet and in her own home. She went back to cycling, gardening, walking, being a pain and a generally active life style, until a fractured pelvis healed badly and led to hip problems. As for the pace maker she said she was aware of the battery pack under the skin particularly when showering bathing, but it wasn't painful or uncomfortable. She had regular check-ups and the battery was changed a couple of times.

Peter has had his hospital visit... now confirmed he has to have a pacemaker fitted.
So now just have to wait for the appointment.
