I've been in contact with the grower of an 800lb Pumpkin and he will be supplyig me with a bunch of seed from it after the holidays. If this does eventually arrive to me....who would be interested in a growing challenge for this mighty veg in 2011?

This is just to see if there is enough interest at present, I do not yet have the seed.

    Steve...:)

I'd like to Steve but having grown them in the past I cant spare the odd acre required.:D

They take up lots of room, to grow well, and then you dont know what to do with the fruits when you get them.

But having said that, its a good idea, just not for me.:gnthb:

    Hi Steve,

I'm with Pete on this one, would love to but just haven't got a big enough plot. Thats a good point davy. Maybe you could ask in the allotment section as well.

 Hi Steve, I am afraid I will have to side with Pete & Zig on this one.. They do take allot of room & nutrients & care if you want to grow big ones & I am ashamed to say I don't even like them...!!! :dh: Thanks for the offer though... :thumb:

Its a fair point they do take up a large ammount of space, but even if we get half a dozen members taking part...it will still make an interesting challenge.

I grow pumpkins for carving each year and never seem to get very big ones, so it would be interesting to learn how it should be done. I'll give it a go Steve :)

I've had confirmation that the seeds are on their way, coming from Canada they will take about six weeks I'm told.

The seeds come from a 849lb Pumpkin, the seed for that Pumpkin came from a 1502lb Pumpkin so our seeds have great potential to grow something quite large.
