:D I remember Tiger nuts, but have never tried growing them, I have enough trouble with the Peanuts and Walnuts that the squirrels plant.

I assume one buys a bag of tiger nuts to start. But I don't know where from nowadays. Anyway I seem to remember vaguely that as a kid I wasn't very fond of them. And nor were the neighbours' kids from the next cave.

I got mine from a mate who is a keen angler, apparently the fish love them and they make good bait.
You can get them at most shops specialising in animal/pet foods.
They need soaking before sowing in a bit of heat.
Strange nut, as they seem to be the tubers of a sedge, growing in wet places.
I'm hoping they taste better fresh than dried.:)

My son still buys tiger nuts for fishing: £60 or there abouts for 25kg. I asked him if he wanted me to try growing some...he reckons I couldn't grow enough to meet his needs! and at that price perhaps they are a bit expensive to waste if I fail.

Many many years ago for free you got a choice of either a banana plant or ,peanut plant or a tigernut plant in those days when postage was cheaper. I remember my mum sent for a banana plant ,
One of her friends got a tigernut plant which produced little nodules on its roots . These I believe were the tiger nuts.they were a white /beige colour and crunchy. Much better than the dried ones.
I bought a pkt of tiger nuts from Ģrape tree for my Grandkids to try....they were not intrested .

Maybe soak the tiger nuts in tepid water before planting and keep in a propagator.

You have me intrested now, off to soak some . We will see what happens.

Back in the 70's my father came back from the pub with a bagful. I tried a couple to be polite and he had some over the next few weeks, the bag fell apart and they went in the compost heap.
