I registered with Ubuntu One (Cloud) the other day and transferred some files to it. I also transferred a calendar file folder with my Sunbird calendar files. I did some updating on my desktop and saved the calendars to U One. I then went into the dining room and started my laptop, accessed the cloud and copied the .ics files to my laptop calendar. Bingo! all my calendars were updated. There's 2GB free but I am told that the paid for capacity is more expensive than some other providers.

Looks to be a good system.

Well, it's nearly a month since I posted this. It looks like we have a "cloudless sky".

I use google docs all the time. Its really handy sharing docs on it as well, and updating stuff at work and home.

Well I'm glad of that, I began to think that it was only Linux users that were experimenting with it.

I asked this question on the Computer Active website and it appears that no Windows users were using it, although several Linux users were (with very different opinions).

With further experimenting I have found that I can drag applications (like the Sunbird Calendar) into the Ubuntu One folder and then all updates (added appoinments) are automatically updated both locally and on the Cloud server. A very old Windows application which I still use (Digita International's Organiser), I found that by dragging the whole folder into Ubuntu One it all works OK.

I am very pleased with what I have found so far.

Hi. I've just started using Zumodrive, that sounds the same sort of thing. 2 gig storage for free. Seems to work OK so far. Works with Linux (I'm using Mint) or Windoze. Anyone else tried Mint yet, I like it better than the basic Ubuntu.

Whilst the latest version of Mint is fully compatible (I think) with the latest Ubuntu, Mint seems to work a lot better on my PC than Karmic Koala (love that name) so I've stuck with it, no problems so far.

I had tried Yahoo storage in the past, but 'personal storage' now gets blocked on my work PC so I can't use it as much as I'd like. I also used to be limited on broadband usage at home so that stopped me using them as much. Although, as a web developer I suppose I'm using the cloud when I upload files to a web server, and then download them to elsewhere which I do quite often. I might have a look at U One tonight at home as I used to have Ubuntu installed on my laptop.
