I've been a faithful FF user for years but lately it's seemed to be very buggy, slow and to cap it all, incompatible with current versions of Java. So Rich suggested I uninstall it :hate-shocked: and install WaterFox instead. Never heard of it before but boy! is it fast! Only been on it this one day but thus far I'm very impressed.

Only hiccup - while I was able to retrieve my bookmarks (I have Xmarks - also highly recommended), I completely forgot about my passwords! 1 exclamation mark.gif Gorn, gorn and nevar called me muvva!

So now I shall have to keep doing a 'forgot password' in order to get into all the sites I use.

Bother! (or words to that effect :heehee:)

I've never heard of WaterFox! I'll have to have a look at that :)
add... I'm on a Mac, Firefox for Mac is already 64bit so there's no benefit in me switching. But it does look good :)

I use cyberfox myself as waterfox stopped being developed (don;t know if that changed). They both use the same profile as FF so by uninstalling you wiped all your info where you could have kept it:(

Just found this thread and was alerted to existence of Waterfox from another thread.
I too have been an avid fan of FF for donkeys and always loved it, the only problem I've found occasionally was a Flash issue but that seems to be ironed out now (IMO Chrome is quick but unsophisticated and IE is clunky and never liked it from the beginning, each to their own of course).

I have installed Waterfox without problems and giving it a whirl while I have FF installed also. The only small irritation on having them both installed is that one checks the other on startup to (I think) compare what addons are installed etc. so as to ensure both up to date. I like Waterfox so far and will give it a fair trial. I'm wondering if I uninstall FF if Waterfox will remain intact with all the bookmarks, addons, extensions that I originally installed to customise FF.

What do other people think about WF compared to FF?

        Cheers

I have downloaded Waterfox too after it was mentioned on the other thread - and I allowed it to be set as the default browser, which seems to have negated it checking Firefox on startup. I still have Firefox installed, and if I use that, the check will be done.

So far, so good with Waterfox - there is no difference to Firefox in terms of the layout etc, and so far it seems to be a stable and willing internet companion. :dbgrtmb:

I too have been a user of Firefox for years, and it has never let me down - Chrome is OK, and my daughter uses it on the desktop PC as her preferred browser - it just feels as though there is something 'missing' in Chrome, and I have no idea what it is? I agree that IE is clunky (at best) and I also find it far too demanding (continually asking for this, that or the other to be chosen or updated - typical Microsoft, they seem to forget that you might actually want to use your computer at times!)

DON'T uninstall firefox! You do what FC mentioned and make waterfox the default browser. Waterfox needs the FF profile to work

@wiseowl - I'm sure under that charming debonair exterior there is a foxy owl just waiting to fledge. Will keep you posted on how things go.

@fat controller - cheers for that, we can compare notes as we get more experience with it.

@Loofah - thanks for that, but I thought that when uninstalling FF you got the options to, in effect, leave everything intact. No?

@Gay Gardener - don't know about you, but I am finding it slightly quicker? Its not a massive change, but every little helps....

FC I think I'm finding little difference in speed, perhaps a tad quicker but nothing significant. It is a fair while since I was a tweekhead and overclocker  I'll still give it a little while longer before my final thoughts.

Aye, the difference is marginal I would say - I suppose the benefit will lie in it being happier with the OS.

What sort of things are on your list as making Chrome "unsophisticated" (Or Firefox / Waterfox "sophisticated" ?
