    Hello All,

I am likely not to use fish blood and bone for the next feed because I have a great deal of foliage-it's been a good spring so far and they have responded very well. It's going to burn the foliage as much as feed the soil so I am considering using a foliar feed instead, but I have never used on before so I am hoping some you guys know which is the best all rounder to use-and if it is indeed as good as fish blood and bone.

What type of plants you talking about Claire? I use tomorite (or the cheapo wilkos equivalent) as a foliar feed for my vegetables - but that won't be for a while yet. I use growmore around my shrubs as a feed because it doesn't blow about like fish blood & bone and hence doesn't burn the foliage.

 I use the chicken poo pellets & make a weakish foliar feed up with some pellets soaked in a large bin of water I keep behind the greenhouses & I just top it up now & then when I do a spray.... Have had no problems with that.. I use it on veg & all plants before & after flowering.... (only when in the growing or replenishing seasons of the plants.)

For general gardening not for vegetables. Do you use a pump action sprayer?

Thanks Marley some? A handful or so?

:D Probably about 4 good handfuls Lolli as it seems to get stronger if left a while.. When I get to past halfway I top it all back up again.. It usually seems weak the first time but then it gets stronger.. I just tip more water in if I think it is too strong... Do you guess when cooking with quantities..? If you do you will see what I mean.. Sounds hit & miss but worlks very well for me..:D BTW it isn't quite as big as a dustbin..

In the past I've used Phostrogen applied through a little container that fits the end of a garden hose. Quite an easy way to do it as you can spray a large area on one filling.

Used to use Maxicrop back in the '70s - worked well as a foliar feed.

Let me know how you get on with it Claire, I'd quite like to consider foliar feed for my Herbaceous plants and Shrubs

No offence to anyone, I used what I had available which was some chicken poo left from last year, I have filled the bucket with water, there was about four or five good handfuls left of it. I'll try each one suggested in turn after that.

    You're great thanks.

I rate phostrogen the best, particularly for vegetables and as a nitrogen tonic for small lawn areas

6 or 7 years ago I would have agreed with you Paul, but then Phostrogen decided to weaken their recipe. which means you have to use twice as much to get the original effect. Thus, I go with Miracle Gro.:D
