First time ever growing vegetables.... disasters this year will no doubt make me wiser....

Carrots need more space to grow, tasty but stumpy....

    image.jpg

Carrots and dwarf runner beans.... Don't plant together under the same frame as plenty of flowers but no beans :yikes: if I lift the frame for the beans it leaves carrots open to carrot fly... :hate-shocked:

    image.jpg

Cabbages  got one thing right :phew:

    image.jpg

    Broccoli doing ok I think:hapydancsmil:

    image.jpg

Cauliflower dunno! :noidea: lots of green

    image.jpg

Don't mix peas and mangetout in the same pot

    image.jpg

Toms..... Don't grow like triffids.... Pinch out between branches, lesson learnt :psnp:

Onions seem to be ok but can't tell if they are ... Waiting to see what happens...

    image.jpg

Chard and spinach looking ok at the mo...

Mixed beetroot showing signs, can't go wrong with that one as purchased seeds on a roll

There's a lot to think about when growing veggies :ideaIPB::hate-shocked::ideaIPB:

You're doing really well for a first timer.

Yes, and even those of us who have grown for years get a few bad crops each year for all sorts of reasons, weather, pests and diseases, under/over watering, forgetting the lessons of years past etc etc :)

Ah thank you Beckie :spinning: I'm really surprised how well they are doing, in fact I can't believe it :heehee: I haven't done anything special :) I'm really happy though as I've grown them from seed and the covers have kept all the predictors away.

I had an army of ants wanting to eat them, they got the bottom leaves but peppermint oil on the wooden frame sorted them out. I'm just not sure now when they are ready to eat mmmmmm can't wait and will probably prepare some for freezing when they are :)

Hi @Apple Blossom, I'm not an expert with broccoli, but I'd guess it's ready...yum yum yum. :)
I didn't know peppermint oil would get rid of ants, that's a great tip thanks. :dbgrtmb:
The last few years I've frozen broad beans, they freeze really well, runner beans & French beans are ok but not as nice as fresh in my opinion. Parsnips freeze well but carrots don't (again only my opinion)
Enjoy the fruits of your labour :hapydancsmil:

Thanks for that info Beckie good to know:dbgrtmb:

As with the ants if you see a trail and put a line of peppermint essential oils on the floor its quite funny watching them back track, they absolutely hate it.

Another one you may be interested in is for Alphids, they hate Lavender and eucalyptus and it's all kind to the plant:spinning:
