Apple Cider Vinergar As Fertiliser?

So the last few mornings ive been feeling strangely nauseous and sickly (i hope your not thinking what i think your thinking! ) at first i blamed whatever i'd eaten for breakfast but ive come to the conclusion its the apple cider vinergar i have most morning with my breakfast, ive been drinking it for years and never had a problem but i lost the lid about a month or so ago off of this jar and well.....it must've gone funny! funny enough to upset my tummy and.....

Oh god im rambling again! For goodness sake! Should i just delete and start again? Ah I've started now i might as well continue.....

So....i went googling and you can use Apple Cider Vinergar to fertilise your ericaceous plants! Who knew? Not me anyway! So does anyone use it or know of anyone who does? Im a bit nervous of getting the consentration/dilution wrong as mine are all in containers im delighted to have found a use for it I'd hate to have wasted it....but as im sure you'll all agree anything used in the garden is never wasted so anyone use it?

 

I drink the stuff, helps with the Arthritis in my spine, a couple of spoons a day work wonders for me.

 

I have an arthritic spine too, currently resting after a 2 day back spasm, did too much Saturday, I am interested in the premise of A.C.V. helping your spine as I have half a bottle, with it`s "mother"and if it will help me, I have been a little lax as regarding my swimming and going to start yoga Friday as I find those help, I walk between 3 and 4 miles daily with dog(s)

 

I have ACV in my cider, makes scrumpy a bit sour, but lift the fizzy pop you get from the supermarkets to almost acceptable. I climb mountains and scramble around on rocky shorelines fishing, gardening is a doddle by comparison. I'm not pain free, but I swear this stuff eases my back.

 

Apple cider vinegar is wonderful stuff, never heard of it used for arthritis tbh but i wouldnt be surprised in the least. I shall go googling
You could try Turmeric @pamsdish & @Bernie its a powerful anti inflammatory (as well as a plethora of other help benefits) and claims to be more effective than conventional arthritis meds. i take it regularly with blackpepper and a good oil (usually olive oil or coconut oil) as it is more readily absorbed this was. Actually our little chihuahua is taking it at the moment as he has sprained his leg

 

I tried ACV mixed with honey for my arthritic knee , without any luck . I must admit it is an acquired taste , and I do not miss it one bit ! As @pamsdish I find swimming (backstroke in my case ) does help . Note , my backstroke style is not Olympic class - more floundering than backstroke !

 

It really isn't....at least not for me I've been drinking it for years and it still tastes just as aweful as the first time lol

 

Can't you just use apple cider vinegar in your salad dressing? Does it really help arthritis?

 

Not so sure its actually a fertiliser more a soil acidifier, I've tried the odd spoon full of ordinary malt vinegar on acid loving plants, diluted in water of course, to counteract the chalk in my tap water.

Not sure if it works, though it certainly does no harm.

 

I assumed the same at first @pete but everything I've read seems to refer to apple cider vinergar as a "fertiliser" as well as an acidifier but white vinegars and the like are just refered to as acidifiers.......which i find very confusing tbh " title="Thinking " /> some even said to use apple cider vinegar instead of your normal fertiliser

If its more expensive than normal fertilisers I think I will stick with them

Would also like to know the NPK content, but I bet that is hard to find.

 

When we visited Norfolk last year, the guy selling the stuff at Wroxham Barns insisted ACV helps with arthritis, but then he would wouldn't he lol. My non scientific tests seem to show my back is less sore with it than without it.
I also eat a fair amount of turmeric, it goes soups and stews as well as curries, apparently it helps ward off certain ailments I really would prefer to avoid.
Also thinking of the pomegranate juice for helping with your memory, pity I can't remember what you do with it......................................lol

 

No idea what the NPK ratio is and good luck searching for it lol it is cheap though (just under €5 for a litre bottle) especially considering you'll only be adding a table spoon or two to a full watering can. i will definitely continue to use it on my potted ericaceous plants, we always have a bottle of apple cider vinegar here anyway (for ourselves) so the garden might as well benefit from it too

I know its an old post but thought this might interest you and others.

I was planting some blueberries and using cider vinergar to reduce the acidity of my tap water for them.

Using an ebay £6 PH pen type meter ( checked ok against a friends £100+ PH meter ) I found that just 1/2 a teaspoon of CV reduced one gallon to PH 4.

Using arbitary rates as mentioned above makes me wonder what it will be doing to the plants and soil ?
