Hello. I bought an apple tree mail order, mainly because the local garden centre offerings were pretty abysmal. It was a gift for my parents. Sadly a fair few branches had snapped as the box had taken a bit of a hiding. Annoyingly it wasn't until I had it in the ground that I noticed a lot of it.

Some of the damage is where the branches have torn but not come away. In the past I have taped these (on different shrubs) and they have fused together. Is that worth doing? Any better ideas?

    Uploaded an example...

I imagine that in time the tree will form new growth, so maybe I'm over concerned?

Grafting tape ordered to replace the sellotape temporary fix tomorrow. Just hoping that the tree will send out new growth in the spring, as I've never planted an apple tree before

Tape it closed and it should be fine but also contact the mail order company and ask for a replacement

Thank you. That's a relief. It's in the ground now, so I hope they don't object!
