Hi everyone, I planted a couple of apple trees about a year and a half ago and although they've grown a little they haven't exactly shot up. I was just looking at them and where the blossoms have died down there appear to be tiny little apples, what should I do with these? Would all the trees energy be best going in to growth rather than fruit at this very early stage, I'm about 5ft 9 and they're not much taller than me. Any advice is welcome.

You could cut them off, like you say the tree needs to grow. Or keep a few and feed the tree with some liquid feed. So you can see if you like the fruit.

Nothing like waiting years for fruit only to find you've planted a french golden "delicious" by accident.

I've had a couple of cheapo trees from the likes of Aldi (not sure where exactly) wrongly labeled, which I only discovered by leaving some fruit on.

      apple spraying

I have 8 cordon apple trees all different varieties.

I have never sprayed them but lose most of the fruit.

This year there is an enormous young crop so I would like to spray.

The problem i usually have is eggs inside the core

Any suggestions on spray type and frequency

      Graham

I think growth really depends on what root stock they are on, some allows the tree to grow larger than others.

I'd wait until after the "June drop", which actually happens in July, and then thin to a fruit every 6 ins or so.
As long as the roots are getting some moisture, a few fruits this year wont hurt, I dont think.

Hi, I'm just wondering what the actual pest is that might be attacking your apples, but codling moth is the usual maggot problem.
These might work if you get them going ASAP.
Buy Agralan Codling Moth Pheromone Traps
