    Hi,
I'm looking for a small apple tree for a corner of a small garden.
Gets reasonable sun at the boundry corner backed by 6ft fence panels opening out onto back lawn.
Ideally the wife would prefer a breaburn type flavour.
Don't want it to tower over fence as next doors bungalow is only 2ft from fence.
Never had a fruit tree so any sggestions welcome.
if plot not suitable we'll have a rethink, rather get the right plant for the right place.
    Soil is neutral and sandyish.

    Thanks
    David

Idealy you need 2 trees that are both in the same class, that is both flower at the same time. This is so that they will polinate one another.

You would be better to talk to a local nursery because of the area that you live in, not all fruit trees will grow north of the Midlands.

You're right on the very edge of getting bare root trees (cheaper in general) but you may find a supplier with one or two available...

You could just go and buy a pot-grown Braeburn apple tree of course; Homebase have them for £9.98 (I know as I bought one a few weeks ago!). I also have a Spartan (without the swords and shields!) in the front but lots of other tree about me so pollination isn't a problem.

As always, dig in manure or similar at planting time (especially with sandy soil) and I'd suggest a stake, again due to sandy soil.
