Hello. I bought an apple tree last year. Very young tree about 3-4ft tall. There was some blossom on it last year then the frost came and knocked everything off. I am just wondering when does apple trees blossom and when should I start to see the first signs of foilage?

    Thanks.

It will be a while yet ... you might put some fleece over it if frost is forecast? (You'll need to take it off so the Bees can get to the flowers to pollinate them though :) )

Good idea - I've got far too many big apples trees to think about something like that (BTW the 'your post has been quoted' notification is probably the only one I'll bother with on the 'new forum').

These may be of some interest, despite being taken last year (when everything was early) as they show regional variation in apple blossom development and (well I think so anyway) why taking a picture diary could be better than written notes:

7th April 2011, took a pic of blossom on one of my trees (think it was a Tom Putt cider apple):

3 days later on the 10th April whilst holidaying in West Somerset I took this pic to show how much further advanced the apple blossom was there (I've made cider using apples from the trees in this car park/picnic area):

A week later on the 17th April 2011 I took this pic to remind me how advanced my rhubarb was at the time, but also caught some Bath Beauty apple blossom out in the LH top corner:

But, as I've said above, everything last year was early, and also you're much, much further north.

Thanks for the tips. I had a look at it the other day.I noticed that there are quite a few buds starting to form. I hope the frost stays away this year, give the blossom a chance to be pollinated.
Could I self pollinate that flowers?
