We managed to get a few apples from the first year with our little 'discovery' apple tree ... we started off with 14 but had some terrific winds up here earlier this year and lost quite a few - but we managed to keep ( and eat ! ) 6 altogether and they were delicious ... now I am wondering when is the best time to put one of those grease bands around the trunk ... Val

One tip, the windfalls may be collected, peeled, sliced and pureed. They may be then either frozen for later use, or mixed with whatever other fruit is available and served with cream ,yoghurt, creme fraiche, whatever. OR whipped up with egg white and sugar to make an apple merangue.
Try as I might I cannot eat all the apples from our Discovery so waste not want not. That way I get to eat apple of some descripton all winter.
