Which way is best to store apples ie: stalk up or stalk down?

 

Stalk up and not touching each other

 

Agree with Zigs plus I wrapped each one in a square of newspaper (can't remember why I did that now though )

Which variety are you storing @Jiffy ?

 

My Dad used to do that. Mind you, he also used to fill his pockets with bus tickets

 

Were they for wrapping cherries in?

 

We get the shallow cardboard boxes supermarkets get their fruit in, plus grab the shaped expanded polystyrene inserts (apples and pears [1]) that fit in them and will keep the fruits apart, stack the boxes somewhere cool and check every few weeks for any going off.

[1] Pears for storage are picked at a slightly under ripe stage.

 

He must have had something in mind, there were thousands of them

Mum and I cleared them all out while he was at work one day and he stopped doing it



20 years later, I went to visit and she showed me his trouser pockets....

Crammed with tickets from the car parking machines

 

I've got an old fridge in the garage, use it for storing apples or onions late in the following spring.
