Oscar is the cat that owns us and our garden and is a large black and white (the best colour - he says :heehee:) very handsome male.

He is definitely not specieist as he happily allows birds and other creatures to use our garden without hindrance as long as they don't cause damage - although dogs are most certainly not allowed. Foxes are allowed but not in his greenhouse but they tend to keep well away from him. He doesn't allow birds to fight in the garden and will get up and walk towards them if they are fighting.

The reason for my question is that he allows all black and white cats to roam our garden, unless he is not in the mood, and even lets them have some of his food. All other cats are quickly chased out of the garden - especially if they are tiger striped. So, does that mean he is colour prejudiced?

I think they definitely have social classes. My cat William seems to have a special loathing for Persian cats with cissy names. We have one up the road called Samantha who makes him froth at the mouth. When William still had his own teeth, he would see her off. Now he demands that we turn the water squirter on her and watches with satisfaction as her soggy derriere beats a hasty retreat. I think it all stems from William's childhood. As a teenager he lived rough in an alley and kept himself alive by pinching bread which had been put out for birds. He doesn't have much time for toffs.

Our cat began life in what she (mistakenly, as it turned out) thought was a loving home. From there she found herself in an RSPCA re-homing centre where she was cared for, but not loved. Then she ended up with us. She has, to use our daughters' expression, 'special needs' - she needs as much lap time as anyone is prepared to give, she needs to know where you are, she needs to be as physically close to you as possible at all times, she needs to supervise thus ensuring you're not unnecessarily messing about with her garden and she needs total control over her environment. Woe betide any creature, furred or feathered, which should trespass into her world since this is the only time when this gentle, affectionate ball of fluff feels the need to hiss and spit - and she doesn't care a jot what colour the 'enemy' is since they're all treated with equal loathing!

My two Moto and Eric are ginger/white and all ginger and they have a real dislike for an all black cat that got more than it bargained for when it entered our back garden, poor thing cleard the back fence and has never been back although Mr GCK (can't say GCQ for obvious reason) had to prize Mots off the black cat the other week in the woodland area behind our back garden or it could have been Murd der (said in true Taggart feeling :heehee:)

    Not so happy days
well for the black cat anyway

Pretty much, certainly has a familiar look about it!

In addition, ours has a propensity to wrap herself around your neck in true 'Granny's fox fur' fashion - often thought, if I could teach her to grip her tail in her mouth at the same time, she could double as a fashion accessory! :yess:
