    Hi folks,

Please refer to the attached image. Some of my new plants have had these circular little objects attached to the underside or base of the plants (once removed from their pots). Are these some sort of seed or eggs? If the latter, belonging to what sort of creature? Are they a potential garden pest?

    Thank you.

PS. As you can probably tell, I'm new to all this.

Hi, they're long-lasting fertiliser granules. They'll dissolve slowly releasing plant food as they do.

Yep, looks like slow release fertiliser.

Oh my goodness. I have so much to learn.

Thanks, folks. There must be a 'Gardening for Dummies' book available. I'm eminently qualified.

No worries @tommyrot ...that's one of the best things about Gardeners corner...asking around and solving the problem then seeing if you can put it right.:dbgrtmb:

We've all been there. Gardening for decades and still squish round things just to be sure.
Trial and error. The more trial, the less error - usually.
Stick with it. It's worth it.

Most commercial compost has that slow release food added, so it's always likely you'll see evidence of it in plants you buy @tommyrot, as well as in any compost you buy .

As others have said - we've all been there, so don't worry, and most of us still have a poke around at anythign we aren't sure of - and imagine the worst!
