    rose hips?
    (And can u make syrup from them?!)

    And damsons? (They are smaller than i thought but heard a neighbour saying they were damsons) id like to make jam. :)

      I'd say yes, and yes!

      Rose hips - you can make syrup from them, definitely.

      Damsons (to double-check, cut one in half and look for a plum-like stone). Great in crumbles, and try pickled damsons! I made some in the mid 90s. The large jar has moved with us so many times, and even across Europe. The absolute Bee's Knees!!

        Ooh hee hee thank you both! I will get picking! The hips are bright red so I assume they are ready to pick?

        The damsons are nice and soft now and starting to drop so i assume theyre ready too! :stirpot:

          Yep, before the Fieldfares come over from Russia to scoff the lot :)

          You'll need a jelly bag to strain the hairs out, you don't want to be eating any of them.

              If you can't find a jelly bag, and you have an old linen t-towel, you can use that instead. However, it will probably be stained an "interesting" brown in the process, so don't use your best one!!

                  Just remember, the hairs in the hips are a dangerous internal irritant, or as we used to call them at skool, itching powder :catapult::snorky:

                  Thanks zigs. The husband had mentioned itching powder. Bought muslin cloth to drain through as couldnt find jelly bags.
