We all like our gardens, or if we don't like them now we all have visions of it being nice, and work tirelessly to get it there.

But in order to get the garden how we like it, we have to go out and do often back breaking work, sometimes in horrible weather. We knock bits of skin off our hands, accidentally stick our hands in a the occasional juicy slug, get spiders on us, spend weeks raising plants from seed just to see that the slugs, snails and aphids have done their worst. We dig til we ache, and even when its all how we want it, we step back from it and decide its not right, so it all needs reorganising. More work. Or even if it doesn't need reorganising, the garden doesn't wait, so we still have to keep on top of it.

    Yet we enjoy it.

So, does this mean we're crazy?

no .... I'd say we are 'passionate'

I work for a lady who has several Bonsai .... if you want to see 'passionate', this is extreme .... she even waters the bonsai with evian spring water, uses a hand held sprayer .... mixes her own fertilizers, counts the leaves, etc
and she has a zillion books that relate to bonsai ....

she will teach me and help me start my own bonsai in March, and has given me a book called Bonsai Survival manual to start off with

she says that if I understand Bonsai, it will help to understand gardening, vegetable growing, feeding and how things grow and how they should be fed and looked after...

she also does hydroponics and has a fishtank in her lounge with the most amazing sea fish (salt water)

a very knowelegeable interesting lady ... there will be lots to learn

Nope. the alternative is not do anything and watch our degeneration into Morlocks/chavs/tory party members etc. in that order.

Clueless, I think Dims hit the nail on the head.....we are passionate, if a little crazy. :) Gardening is like a painting, it's a canvas that's never finished.

Having said that it might be hard work at times, but I find it very relaxing, an escape from the humdrum of everything else that goes on around.

                    And crazy.

                    Is there a difference?

Some people are passionate about football and spend a fortune going to watch 22 men fighting over one ball for 90 minutes. Some people are passionate about geology, and spend their lives looking at bits of rock they found. Some people are passionate about diving and filming massive carnivorous creatures in the sea. All crazy. I'm not knocking it, I like crazy people. Its the sane ones I don't trust.:WINK1:

I'm passionate about growing food, making enough preserves & storing food to get us thru the winter months.

Also about many other Earth sciences.

While i'm doing stuff on a Saturday afternoon, I often hear the cheers of the football supporters, and I often think why can't they get on with something more usefull.

Ball goes into net, job done, worth cheering. After all the effort that goes into getting the ball into the goal in the first place, why don't the just leave it in there? Then they've achieved something. They've put the ball where they want it and they don't have to chase it around any more. They could all go for a nice cuppa knowing they've done a good job. But no, they get it back out and then they all chase it again.

When you pick up £2k per minute, you like to make it last :heehee:

With that in mind we would ALL be like Ziggy wandering around at midnight with lamp on head and LUMP hammer to hand

Can't exactly call footballers crazy though. They're earning a mint for kicking a ball around an oversized allotment. Some things in this world just aren't right or fair!:)
