Just planted out my two 6 inch tall trees I grew from seed today, hope they live. Anyone have any experience of these outside in the UK?

I have never grown them but according to the information I have, sawfish, is that they are very hardy. They prefer a sunny situation with good, rich, free-draining, but moist, soil. Sounds good to me, keep us informed of their progress.:thumb::D

interesting. I've read they prefer semi shade. I'll put them in both.

Sawfish I remember you posting on this last year when you sowed the seed.
    Glad they have grown.
Just to show you how mine are doing, they are hardy down here and I think probably hardy up there with you, got a feeling though they like a hot summer, as a lot of the North American stuff does.

    Flowers this year,

    And strange fruit last year,

Just to add, I've read that they like shade early in life but full sun is good for older plants.

Also they seem to need another plant for cross pollenation, so make sure you keep at least two, as I dont think the neighbours are likely to be growing one.:D

Interesting looking plant Pete. How long is the flowering season on this?

wow, thanks for the info. How old is that one?

Apparently the fruit tastes great if it actually matures, did you taste it?

Yes I tasted it sawfish, it didn't get as big as some of the pics I have seen.
It had yellow flesh, a very sweet flavour, perhaps too sweet, embedded in the pulp was loads of very lareg seeds.
I dont think its going to catch on in sainsburys some how.
But maybe there are good fruiting varietys, that need to be grown from cuttings, I dont know.
