    Hi everyone

has anybody here tried growing asparagus in pots? My hubby and I love them and I have heard that they are tough plants. Any advice is appreciated.

    Many thanks :D

I grew mine in pots for 18 months, have just planted them in new raised bed. The main thing with containers is remembering to water in summer, and feeding regularly. Asparagus like a good feed! I had quite agood crop last spring.

No, I brought them from my previous garden, dug up some small ones. They were seedlings of the originals bought as 3-year crowns from a local grower near Cambridge. Buying 3-yr crowns is a good way of starting, growing from seed will take that long to get going. Most garden centres sell them in spring now, and they're not expensive. If you leave a few spikes each year they will slowly spread- more difficult in pots though as you don't know where the seeds go!
